AFTER THE FACT:
My little shout out to the psychiatry booth from “Peanuts.” One thing I wanted to do in the strip was to establish that Davis and Kat were attracted to each other… you know, physically. In comic strips it seems as though spouses either hate each other or just kind of get along but that’s it.
Actually, “Blondie” started out as a strip in which Blondie and Dagwood clearly had the hots for each other. Blondie was a 1920′s-style flapper. Dagwood was the heir to a family fortune. He married Blondie despite his family’s threats to cut him out of the will. (Trivia note: Blondie’s maiden name is “Boopadoop.”) And they went on to become a standard family. While they did go on to have two kids, you have to wonder how since they just seemed to… like each other. But enough of that aside.
Anyway, this strip started out as a doodle that made me laugh, so I made it a color panel.
